Admissions Process

We welcome your application for our student’s admission to CCA. The purpose of this community is to serve and prepare college-bound students. Candidates for admission to CCA must be performing academically at least at their age-appropriate grade level. Although CCA welcomes students who come to us with or without the school’s religious convictions, the curriculum is governed by the requirements of college preparation, and includes extensive study of the Bible, with expectations for students to exhibit Christian behavior. As an independent, interdenominational, college preparatory, Christian school, we are best able to serve students and families who share a similar commitment to our priorities.

The admission process begins once we receive the completed and paid application forms. All students seeking admission at any grade level must go through our entrance testing, scheduled individually for 1st - 12th graders after we receive the paid application form, copies of the student’s academic records from his or her current school, and the teacher recommendations.

Entrance testing for K-2nd graders:

For kindergarten, first and second grade applicants, the entrance testing would assess the student’s academic (reading and math concepts and skills), and social and developmental readiness to move into the specific grade. Testing for K-2nd grade applicants is administered by teachers of the particular grade, and typically takes 30-45 minutes. It is made up of nationally standardized tests in combination with in-house materials. Kindergarten entrance testing specifically is typically scheduled in late April/early May each year. If a kindergarten application is received after the testing dates, we would schedule such testing individually.

Entrance testing for 3rd-12th graders:

For applicants for 3rd grade and above, entrance testing includes three components of the IOWA Test of Basic Skills (reading comprehension and math components) and an on-site writing sample. Students typically complete the testing within 2 1/2 - 3 hours. We realize there are many factors that must go into evaluating any candidate’s application for admission. We are prayerful about each one and do not make these decisions lightly. For all new applicants, we carefully examine past academic records, scores on state and national standardized testing, and teacher recommendations. Because of our rigorous college preparatory program, applicants should be able to demonstrate strong potential particularly in the English language arts area, to successfully handle the work at CCA. Therefore, we anticipate an applicant will score at least at the grade level on the entrance testing for which he or she is applying for us to reasonably make an offer of admission.
